Audi A1
The Audi A1 is a small family car which is produced as a 3-door hatchback. In terms of fuel economy, it delivers up to 74mpg, while it also qualifies for free road tax with the 1.6-litre diesel engine. It is priced starting from £13,790, although you can pay up to in excess of £22,000 for a top-of-the-range model.
There is also a 5-door version of the car – the Audi A1 Sportback.
Audi A4
A line of medium executive cars, the Audi A4 has been on the market since 1994. The saloon model can deliver up to 66mpg and starts from £23,960. The A4 Avant is a 5-door estate which offers similar performance for a similar price, but with a much larger cabin and bigger loading space for luggage.
Additionally, there is an off-road model – the A4 allroad quattro – which starts from £31,810. The four-wheel drive variant is also more expensive to tax and insure.
As a consequence of its high purchase price, the A4 has become a very popular model on the used market.
Audi A6
The Audi A6 is a large executive car. Essentially, it is a bigger version of the A4 and is produced in the same three body styles as its smaller brother.
For a sizeable offering, the saloon performs impressively in terms of fuel economy, delivering up to 58mpg with its most frugal engine. The cheapest you can buy a brand new one for is £30,985, while you’ll pay just shy of £50,000 for a range-topping model.
The A6 Avant is a little more expensive, but the estate car is nearly as fuel efficient and costs roughly the same to tax and insure, while of course boasting considerably more space.
For the allroad model, you’re looking at upwards of £43,000.
Audi R8
Audi’s most expensive current production model is the R8, its high-performance sports car. There are two versions available – the R8 Coupe and the R8 Spyder. Both of them fall into the most expensive tax band and insurance group, M and 50 respectively.
The minimum you’ll pay for a Coupe is £92,710, while the Spyder convertible starts from £101,360. Top of the range models will set you back in excess of £125,000 if you want a new one, with acceleration from 0 – 62mph coming in less than 4 seconds.
